Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack left him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
